Frank Backs Sanusi on Nigeria's Bankruptcy

Frank in a statement Thursday in Abuja, also called on other traditional rulers and religious leaders to emulate the Emir – who is known to speak the truth even at his own peril – by speaking out to save the country from imminent collapse. It could be recalled that Emir Sanusi – a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised the alarm that the country is heading towards a catastrophic bankruptcy as a result of the poor and indolent management of the economy by the General Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. He also recalled that the former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and ex-Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, had issued a similar warning about a month ago when he declared that Nigeria is heading towards another recession. He stated that the failure of Buhari to implement a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers – six months after signing the bill into law – as well as the incapacity of may state governments to pay salaries are cle...

The “Mugabe” of VGC.

The “Mugabe” of VGC. If you live in VGC you may have come across his convoy, a Hilux filled with mean looking policemen in the front and another Hilux full of p olice behind. His favorite car is a Mercedes G63 Brabus which has no registration number beyond the word “Brabus” on it (it’s not the personalized shit o, dude is just too big to register his car), squeezed between the Hiluxes and other luxury cars. You might be mistaken to think to think it’s President Buhari’s convoy as you are not allowed to overtake, those who have made that mistake nearly never lived to tell the story. The occupant is no president, no governor, not the Senate President not even an LG Chairman but an ordinary citizen called JULIAN OSULA (the bearded guy in the picture below). Julian boasts about his power, and his police convoy will convince any doubter. He claims to be “very close” to Patience Jonathan and that even if The Jonathan’s are out of power his influence can never w...

CCTV footage shows the row in a train carriage which led to a father being stabbed to death and dying in front of his 14-year-old son. Lee Pomeroy, 51, was knifed to death by Darren Pencille just minutes after he and his son boarded a train from Guildford, Surrey, to London Waterloo in January. Pencille insists he was defending himself. The murder trial today saw footage of Mr Pomeroy and his teenage boy boarding the train before Pencille brushes past them, sparking a row which would lead to the attack. Pencille is seen jabbing his finger towards the father and son. The court has heard he accused them of blocking the aisle. Mr Pomeroy then followed Pencille into another carriage, where the fatal blows were struck. Some of Mr Pomeroy's family left the public gallery of the Old Bailey as the disturbing footage was shown. His wife, Svetlana, stayed in court and wept as the CCTV was played. The court was also shown a video of Mr Pomoroy's son giving a statement to the police...

Falconets were not owed at France 2018 – Danjuma

Head Coach of the U-20 Women National Team, Chris Danjuma, has dispelled reports claiming that players and officials of his team were not paid their entitlements before and during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in France. Danjuma led the Falconets to a quarter-finals berth at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France “I see this as a silly, mischievous story. I have spoken to my assistants and backroom staff and they all denied talking to the reporter,” Danjuma said in a media statement released by the media department of the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday. “We were paid our entitlements for the camping in Austria and at the FIFA World Cup, and no money was lost as claimed in the story.” “From the very first day I saw the reporter in our camp prior to our departure to the final training camp in Austria, I observed he was a very funny figure just looking for negative stuff to report. “It is unfortunate that some persons commit their lives to trying to cause m...

The 5 Biggest Myths About Smartphone Batteries (and Why They’re Mostly False)

There are a lot of commonly held beliefs out there about how you should and shouldn’t charge the batteries in your smartphone. You know the ones I’m talking about: Don’t keep your phone plugged in all night. You need to “train” your battery to hold a charge. Well, it turns out that a lot of those tips are pure hooey. To help you sort the facts from the fiction, here’s the truth about five of the most prevalent myths about smartphone batteries. Don’t say we’ve never done anything for you. 1. Keeping your phone plugged in damages its battery You’ve certainly heard this one before: Keeping your phone plugged in all night when you go to sleep will supposedly overwhelm your handset’s battery, damaging it and keeping it from being able to hold a charge. The truth of the matter, however, is the exact opposite. Your smartphone is intelligent enough to recognize when its battery is fully charged and, when it does, will stop pulling in power. In fact, most of today’s phones are so sma...

How solid minerals can lift Nigeria’s earnings by $50b

To boost Africa’s $110b inter-trade market  NIGERIA stands to earn about $50 billion from her abundant solid minerals if the necessary framework is put in place to harness the resources. Indeed, the nation has been estimated to possess over 400 solid minerals, 40 of them available in commercial quantities, though only 13 of these are being exploited at present. This is believed to have dragged down the sector’s contribution to the national economy to a paltry 0.3 per cent and generating about $1.5 billion into the country’s coffers. A document obtained from Solid Mines Limited, showed that the sector could add as much as $50 billion to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by climbing from 0.3 per cent to 10 per cent growth in the next three to five years, if the necessary investment is made. Besides, optimal utilisation of the solid minerals could also create over one million direct and indirect jobs within Nigeria and far increase Africa’s inter-trade activity, which...

Aaron Rodgers yelled what direction the Packers were running, which didn't work at all

Aaron Rodgers has been downright masterful with his pre-snap actions and  ability to score the Packers free plays  by manipulating the snap count. That doesn't mean he's always calling out complicated audibles to fool people, however. Sometimes he just tells everyone exactly where the play is going.  Rodgers called an audible which led to one of the Green Bay lineman asking "which way." With time running out on the play clock, Rodgers didn't have time to spare so he just yelled out "right!" The Packers did indeed run right and it's almost as if the Chiefs knew exactly what direction the play was going since they stopped it for a 2-yard loss. Weird. Knowing Rodgers, this is probably all part of some long con. Next time he's going to yell "left!" but the Packers will run right. Either that or he's just trying to make the playing level a little more equal since his right arm is essentially an unfair advantage.

Snowden says aliens could be trying to get in touch right now

Edward Snowden worries we're not hearing aliens' messages.  HBO/Screenshot by CNET We have many assumptions about extraterrestrials. We assume that, in some way, they'll understand how to communicate with us. We assume they may well be more advanced than us. We assume they have spaceships and weapons that can zap us into granular matter with just a twitch of their noses.  What if it's all one big misunderstanding? Edward Snowden, who used to be a contractor for the NSA before he became famous for leaking some of its practices, worries that we might currently be deaf to alien communication. He expressed this view during a fascinating chat with Neil DeGrasse Tyson  on his StarTalk podcast . This was courtesy of a robot-controlled video screen from his Moscow location -- a communication system that DeGrasse Tyson described as "an iPad on wheels." It was wide-ranging chat between two nerds. Sample from Snowden: He once read a metallurgy textbook. S...

CHIBOK GIRLS! Shekau’s uncertain fate delays negotiations

Is Abubakar Shekau, the acclaimed leader of Boko Haram, alive or dead? This is the question that is reverberating within the camps of the terrorist organisation and causing unease among  top leaders and members of the group, which has been killing and maiming since 2009.  Shekau has not been seen in action for a long time, fuelling speculation that he might have been killed or fatally wounded in battle with the Nigerian armed forces. The Department of State Security Service (DSS), under the Jonathan administration, had announced the death of the Boko Haram leader many times, and many times he resurfaced in poorly produced videos, claiming he was alive and could not be killed. The military and intelligence organisations in Nigeria, however, have chosen  to work with the premise that Shekau is alive and must be driven to his early grave for the Boko Haram war to  end. To them, the capture of the terrorist commander, dead or alive, remains a top priority...

No arrest warrant for Saraki — Police

A mid  the controversy generated by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) order for the arrest of Senate President Bukola Saraki, the police said, yesterday, they were yet to receive a bench warrant to effect it. “I am yet to see one”, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, said while responding to a Sunday Vanguard inquiry. The CCT, headed by Justice Danladi Umar, had, in a ruling on Friday, ordered the IGP and other security agencies to arrest Saraki and produce him before it tomorrow (Monday) to face a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false declaration of assets.  The order and subsequent bench warrant followed Saraki’s failure to appear before the tribunal for arraignment. The CCT order was in negation of an Abuja Federal High Court order, on Thursday, stopping the tribunal from commencing the trial of the Senate President.  While stopping the trial, the High Court summoned the Federal Ministry of Justice to appear before it tomor...
